If you’re not excited for Disney’s Descendants, you either didn’t have a childhood, or you’re an alien who grew up on another planet. I mean, a story featuring all our favourite Disney characters’ teenage children? It’s literally a dream come true! What’s not to love?!

Descendants is targeted towards kids and grown-ups alike, but I’m pretty sure we can all guess the category of audience that are jumping in their seats with their popcorns ready. If you need a clue, these category of people are also those who are pretty much going crazy, counting down the days until the premiere of Finding Dory, Toy Story 4 and Incredibles 2. Omg just talking about it is making me super flipping excited! But, let’s get back to Descendants, which will premiere much sooner, on 13th September!

Descendants is set in the kingdom of Auradon, where Prince Ben, son of Beast and Belle, is the soon-to-be King of Auradon. He proclaims for Maleficent’s daughter, Mal (Dove Comeron), Cruella de Vil’s son, Carlos (Cameron Boyce), Jafar’s son, Jay (Booboo Stewart), and the Evil Queen’s daughter, Evie (Sofia Carson), to return to Auradorn for a chance at redemption. There, they attend school at Auradorn Prep, along with other adolescents of various Disney characters, and do a bunch of evil stuff.

Basically, it’s like Mean Girls with a fairytale twist. And not just a tale focused on girls. And with loads of music. Okay, maybe not, but you get my point. In this movie, Mal sets out to steal Fairy Godmother’s magic wand as instructed by her mother, Maleficent. And again, basically, she’s like the Regina of Descendants, all hip and cool and feared, because she can casts spells! I mean like, she could probably Crucio the shit out of you. Aaaanyways, Mal is played by Dove Cameron, whom you may know for her roles as identical twins Liv and Maddie from the Disney Channel Original series, Liv and Maddie.

Now as we wait for Descendants to finally premiere, here’s a little look into Mal’s character as stated from the girl that portrays her herself, Dove Cameron.

What is it like being the daughter of Maleficent?

Being the daughter of Maleficent is complicated. I love my mother and I want to make her happy but it’s difficult for me to do that sometimes. She is very judgmental of me but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love me. I look forward to meeting her high expectations one day.

How did you feel when you first met Audrey (the daughter of Sleeping Beauty and Prince Philip), after knowing what happened between your parents?

I didn’t really care much. Whatever happened between our parents is, honestly for me, water under the bridge. The fact that she decided to bring it up shows me who she really is and made her an immediate enemy, for me. I don’t like people who live in the past. And also, what she did to my mother was far worse than what my mother did to her parents. So, if she wants to be a little brat about it, then I don’t need to spend my time around her.

What’s the first thing you would do if you managed to steal the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand?

Before I give it back to my mom, I think I might do some other things with it that were in my own interest… and she wouldn’t have to know. Or even if she would, she’d better be grateful that I got her the wand and I’d get off with it. I think maybe the first thing I would do is to put a protective barrier around Auradon and take away all their magical powers, so they can feel what it felt like for us growing up. I would go back to the Isle of the Lost; I love the Lost. I would make sure that every kid on the Isle of the Lost know who I am, and know that I am the queen of high school!

Any advice for aspiring young ‘villains’ like yourself?

Try your best to be like me… and hopefully you’ll find success.
